Agee, Roy

He is trombonist, composer, arranger and teacher born in Nashville, Tennessee, who began learning the tonette/recorder while very young and when he was eleven he was playing the banjo in local talent contests and shows. When he was twelve he decided to join the school band and after being urged to play the trombone as he had a "natural ability" for it, he decided to concentrate on it as his main instrument. At the age of sixteen he was encouraged by his private tutor to try out for a trombone scholarship and this resulted in him entering Vanderbilt University. Not following the path of many after graduation, he decided he didn't want to be an orchestral musician and continued on a road of local gigs and session work until 1991 when he began to hook up with various big bands and brass ensembles. Through the course of his career to date he has performed with quite an array of artists and ensembles that include his own Roy Agee Trio, The Amazing Rhythm Aces , Integrity Quartet, Beverley Knight, Tennessee Jazz Orchestra and Tobymac. In 1995 he joined up with the Goose Creek Symphony, who he currently still performs with, and later became a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra . He also performs, tours and records with his wife in Kristie Agee and Big Potential. Albums you can find his work on include many gospel releases as well as others such as Don't Stop the Carnival by Jimmy Buffett , Goose is Loose by Goose Creek Symphony, Funky As a Diaper by Uncle Jim , His Hands by Candi Staton, Why We Sing by Dionne Warwick and Very Special Acoustic Christmas, Christmas Angels and Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now to name just a few. In the movies he was a trombonist in the 2007 Rocket Science.
