He is a bass singer, arranger and choral conductor who
received a degree in vocal performance from Pomona College in Claremont,
California and Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance degrees from the New
England Conservatory of Music.As a
singer he has performed with ensembles that include the Boston
Camerata, the Church of the Presidents, the Concord Ensemble, the Robert
Shaw Festival Singers and the Washington Bach Consort but he is
perhaps best known as a singer, arranger and director of Chanticleer
.With Chanticleer for over a decade
from 1988, he performed internationally in 20 countries and 50 states in
the US and came to people's attention with his solo performance of "Loch
Lomond" on the album Wondrous Love. He also held the positions of Acting Director and
Associate Conductor with them and was the concept designer and decision
maker on the content of their Grammy Award winner Color of Love. Other albums he has appeared
on as a singer or conductor include Renaissance Christmas and With
Joyful Voice: Christmas Music of Eight Centuries by the Boston Camerata
and Lost in the Stars, Mexican Baroque, The Music of Chen Yi and Sing
We Christmas by Chanticleer and Love Songs for Chorus with the
Woodley Ensemble. Living and
working in and around the District of Columbia since 1999, he has been the music
director of the University of Virginia Glee Club since 2002, the Washington
Men's Camerata since 1999 and the Woodley Ensemble since 2000. Other positions he has held are
the Director of Choral Activities at Davidson College, North Carolina, from
1984 to 1988, the National
Repertoire & Standards Chair for Men's Choirs in the American Choral
Director's Association, Vice President of ChoralNet.org, the President of
the Intercollegiate Men's Chorus's Inc and he is on the board of the
National Collegiate Choral Organization.
