    Amarante, Gustavo (1973-Present)

He is a bassist born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.  He studied at the Fundacao de Educacao Artistica and the Fundacao Clovis Salgado.  He began his professional career at a young age and joined a folk band that played traditional Northeastern Brazilian music.  At the same time he became a session musician performing on several CDs by various artists and recording jingles.  In 1994 he had decided to continue his formal studies and went to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music where he concentrated on composition, improvisation and bass.  After having received a Best Academy Achievement Scholarship he gained a degree in Professional Music and moved into a successful solo career.  He has worked with artists that include Luis Salinas, Nadja Salinas-Sonnenberg , Bob Moses, and Simon Diaz.
