He is an orchestral conductor
born in Valencia,
Spain. He was a student of violin, harmony,
counterpoint, chamber music and composition at the Royal Conservatory in
Madrid and later studied conducting at the Higher School of Music in Munich
and then at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He currently teaches at the Valencia
Conservatory, is Head of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Conservatory of Music, and Professor of
Orchestral Conducting at the Madrid Conservatory. He has
conducted several acclaimed orchestras including the Madrid
Symphony Orchestra
and the Washington
National Symphony Orchestra. He
currently serves as the resident conductor for the Radiotelevision
Espanola Symphony Orchestra and has been awarded the title of Knight of the
Order of Santo Caliz and Santa Maria del Puig. In
1992 he was awarded the 1992 National Music Prize by the Asociacion de Cultura Viva
for a "life devoted to music".
