    Assad, Odair (1950s?-Present)

    He is a classical guitarist born in Brazil and is the brother of the guitarists and composers Badi and Sergio Assad and the uncle of the pianist and composer Clarice Assad .  He and his brother studied for seven years with the guitarist and lutenist Monina Tavora, who had been a pupil of Andres Segovia and this sharing of studies and performing together as The Assad Brothers has brought them world renown.  He has made many recordings with artists such as Gidon Kremer, Dawn Upshaw and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and has won a Latin Grammy Award with his brother for Sergio and Odair Assad Play Piazzolla, as well as collaborating on the Grammy Award winner, Obrigado Brazil, with Yo-Yo Ma. He is now based in Brussels and has played recitals with many of the European major orchestras.  His solo album Fuga y Misterio was released in 2000.
