studied guitar for seven years with MoninaRavora, who had been a student of Andres Segovia and
performed regularly in Brazil.He made his US debut in 1969 in New York and often
gives concerts and records with his brother Odair
, as The Assad Brothers.His compositions include the pieces
"Suite Brasileira", "SummerGarden" and
"Aquarelle" which was a mandatory piece in the 2002 GFA
Competition.As an artist he has performed
with artists that include Nadja
Salerno-Sonnenberg
, Yo-Yo Ma
and Paquito D'Rivera.He
and his brother received a Latin Grammy Award for Sergio and Odair Assad Play Piazzolla
and Obrigado Brazil which they
collaborated on with Yo-Yo Ma and which won a Grammy Award in 2004.Now based between Brussels
and the United States
he is a teacher at RooseveltUniversity's
College of Fine Arts in Chicago.
