He is a French horn player
and conductor who was born in Budapest, Hungary
and emigrated to Tel Aviv, Israel,
when he was 13 years old.His musical
education began in Budapest and he continued his musical education,
studying French Horn at the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv conservatories.He started his career playing the
instrument until he moved to London
to study conducting with Antal Dorati at the Guildhall School of
Music.He has won several
conducting prizes, including the second prize in the Mitropoulos
Conductors' Competition and the Leonard Bernstein Prize at
Tanglewood.He has conducted many
orchestras and opera houses including the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin
Philharmonic
, North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, the
Royal Danish Theatre, the Hamburg Opera and the Nagoya Philharmonic, for
which he is now Honorary Conductor.He has been the Chief Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and
is currently the General Director of Music at the opera in Dortmund and the
Principal Conductor of the Aalborg Symphony
