    Backlin, Laurissa

Soprano who attended Wheaton College and Temple University and studied with Jeffrey Gall at the International Handel Academy.  In 1999, she appeared on Brian C. James’ Requiem.  Things got experimental in 2003 when Laurissa was the token soprano in a multi-media presentation entitled “Seven Veils (Poetry in Moving Media)”.  In 2005, she played Phylla in The Ardensingers’ production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Utopia, Limited.  Then she reached the semifinals at The Bach Festival of Philadelphia Vocal Competition.  She was also a member of The Philadelphia Singers, the chorus-in-residence of The Philadelphia Orchestra.  On 6th December 2009, she was a featured soloist in a performance of the Christmas portions of Handel’s Messiah with the Gainesville High School Choir and the North Central Texas Chorale.  Laurissa teaches voice at the Conservatory of Musical Arts and directs the spring musical at Maddonfield Middle School.
