He is a violinist born in Bucharest,
Romania, and who
moved to Israel
with his family in 1969.He
studied the violin in London
and at the JuilliardSchool
in New
York.He is a founding member of the
Michael Nyman Band and the Balanescu
Quartet, and was a member of the Arditti
Quartet
from 1983 to 1985.He has performed and recorded works
by popular and modern contemporary composers and artists alike including
Ligeti, Xenakis, The Pet Shop Boys, David Byrne
and Gavin Bryar.His work in TV and film can be heard
on the soundtracks of the TV programme University
Challenge and the movies The End
of the Affair, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover and Drowning by Numbers amongst many
others.His compositions
include the music for the films Eisenstein, Angels
and Insects and the Trying to
Kiss the Moon.
