    Barber, Jack

Bassist and one of the original members of The Sir Douglas Quintet, who briefly lit up the charts with "She's About A Mover".  He would continue to collaborate with fellow Quintet members Augie Meyers and Doug Sahm for many years, on albums such as Meyers' Blame It On Love and White Boy, Doug Sahm and Band, and Doug Sahm And The Last Real Texas Blues Band, which was nominated for a Grammy.  Other Barber-Meyers-Sahm projects included The Texas Tornados , of which Barber was one of the original members, appearing on the Grammy-nominated 4 Aces, and their 1976 release, Texas Rock For Country Rollers.  He has performed with a litany of country and rock acts, including Bob Dylan (on Doug Sahm and Band), Los Lobos, Delbert McClinton, Roger Miller, Willie Nelson (on 1973's Shotgun Willie), The Righteous Brothers, Boz Scaggs , Billy Swan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jerry Jeff Walker.  In 2003, he was a member of The West Side Horns, performing bass on their album, San Quilmas.  Recently, he has been active in the Texas club scene, performing with such bands as Little Johnny's Double Nickle Birthday Bash All Star Band, on 10th September 2004, The S.A. Blues Cats, in a 2005 concert to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims, and The Texas Southside Kings, at their CD release party on 19th October 2006.  He even got his own chance in the limelight, performing with Jack Barber & Friends at Santa's Place in 2007.  He is still in demand as a session player, appearing on Glenn Allan and Kim Mackenzie's Paradise, Texas.  At the time of this writing, plans were in the works for him to play bass on a blues album with Nataly Pena.  A couple of websites have mentioned that Jack Barber really is a barber.  If he is, chances are he doesn't have much time for cutting hair.
