She is a singer-songwriter born Celida Ines Camacho in
New York City and moving to Puerto Rico at a young age.
She married the bandleader and
songwriter Pepe
Luis Soto in the
1960s, who she sang with in a duo, and he acted as her mentor on her road
to success. She had her first
hit with "Yo Quiero un Pincel" but did not achieve much public
recognition until she emerged onto the disco scene scoring hits such as
"Half a Love" and "Superman". She sang guest vocals for some
tracks by The Rice & Beans Orchestra, which was owned by her husband,
and she recorded her last album Como
Agua y Arena in 1986. Her
marriage broke up around 1979 and it has been said that Puerto
Rico mourned the divorce.
She is currently living in Miami, Florida
and is a volunteer in the Dade County
School system teaching music in
underprivileged neighbourhoods.
