Blok, Jaap

Cellist who started playing at nine years of age and attended the Utrecht Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory in the The Hague, where he studied under Anner Bijlsma.

Before even graduating, he was already a member of The Hague Philharmonic, along with his brother, who was also a cellist. Other groups with whom he has worked comprise Camerata Amsterdam, the Camerata Quintet, the Capriccio Salon Ensemble, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Promenade Orchestra, and Wilskracht.

He has appeared several recordings, including Dreams to Remember by Piet Veerman, Eerlijk Zeggen by Jan Ten Hoopen, Lang Genoeg Jong by Robert Long, Nu Het Zover Is by Daniel Otten, Portrait by the Capriccio Salon Ensemble, Time of My Life by Patricia Paay, Valensia, and Works by Paul Termos.

On 21^st December 2002, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra and Groot Omroepkoor rang in the holidays with Roel van Oosten’s “Quatre Noels Anciens”, Arvo Part’s “Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten”, Alexandre Tansman’s oratorio, Isaie, le Prophete, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols”.
