French
horn player whose early recordings included Winds in Hi-Fi with Frederick Fennell
and the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Peggy Lee’s Blues Cross Country, Bobby
Darin Sings The Shadow of Your Smile, and Jeff Sturges and Universe. In the mid-to-late ‘70s,
Aubrey was a member of the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra. Other recordings from this period
include Quincy Jones’ Sounds
and Stuff Like That, Belle de
Jour by Saint Tropez, and Frank Sinatra’s 1979 boxed set, Trilogy. Aubrey also was on the faculty of
UCLA at this time. The CD era
affords us a few opportunities to hear Aubrey’s French horn stylings, including The
Best of Peggy Lee, Quincy Jones’ Ultimate Collection, and Q: The Musical Biography of Quincy
Jones.
