He is a tenor, conductor and teacher who studied at Wartburg
College, Iowa and attended Peabody Conservatory from 1966 to 1968. In 1970 he was an apprentice with
the Chautaqua Opera. He has since sung as a soloist and ensemble
member with the Robert
Shaw
Festival Singers in many concert performances, including
10 appearances at Carnegie Hall, and on seven recordings. Aside
from Robert
Shaw he has also sung under the leadership of conductors such as
Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt and Sir
David Willcocks
.
Nationally and internationally known he has appeared throughout the
United States in recitals and oratorios, spent four summers in France with
the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, toured Eastern Europe in 1996 with the
pianist Boaz Sharon, co-directed the University of Florida Chamber Singers
at the White House and the Linz Festival in Austria and conducted the
University of Florida Choir and Chamber Singers on a tour of France. As a guest conductor he has also
appeared at many venues throughout the length and breadth of the United
States. The composer Paul
Basler wrote his "Missa Kenya" for Ronald to conduct. Appearing on many albums a few of
them include Amazing Grace - American Hymns & Spirituals by the Robert
Shaw
Festival Singers and The Music of John White by John
White and the compilations American Christmas Classics and Best
Loved Christmas Carols. As
a teacher he has been Professor of Music at the University since 1984 and
also serves as their choral conductor, voice tutor and director of the
Men's Glee Club. His
adjudicating and clinician services have seen him venture as far as Canada.
