She is a singer-songwriter born Catherine Bush in Bexleyheath, Kent,
England.She studied the piano and the violin
and was composing her own songs from a young age.She was discovered by David
Gilmour
of Pink Floyd while still at school and he helped fund her first demo
sessions.She signed a contract
with EMI when she was 16 but instead of releasing an album, she took time
out to complete her exams as well as study dance, music and mime.Prior to releasing her first album,
she recorded in small venues as the KT Bush Band and after releasing the
single "WutheringHeights" in 1978, which
became a No.1 hit in the UK
and Australia,
she was just known as Kate Bush.Her song-writing uses many influences from literature or film.After the release of her first two
albums and touring she started to withdraw from the limelight so that she
could concentrate on her music.She would only reappear in the public eye every four years or so
when she released albums and was promoting them.She and her partner and guitarist,
Danny McIntosh, had a son, Albert (known as Bertie),
in 1998 and there was no public announcement of the birth, or any related
story for over two years.She has had major success with
hits such as "Them Heavy People" and "Running Up That Hill" as well
as in collaboration with artists such as Peter
Gabriel
where she duetted with him
on the song "Don't Give Up".She has also appeared as a backing vocalist with Peter
Gabriel
along with other artists.In 2005 she released the album Aerial which was her first in 12
years.
