She is a singer, lyricist, actor and author also
occasionally listed as Mary Cain who has provided backing vocals for
a plethora of artists during the course of her career. Active from the 1960s-1970s
onwards she has appeared with Boys Town Gang, The Charlie Daniels
Band, Michael
Crawford , Barbra Streisand and Mark Winkler and also released
two of her own solo albums.
Other albums she features on as a singer and/or lyricist
include Fandango by Herb
Alpert, Ultimate Gospel by Elvis
Presley , Disney's Take My Hand: Songs From 100 Acre Wood
and the soundtrack of Repossessed. She has also provided her
vocal talents for TV programmes such as The Simpsons, Cagney
& Lacey and The Nanny. As a lyricist she has
written several advertising jingles, including ones for Coca-Cola
that won her a Clio award, and had songs sung by Cher, Maureen
McGovern and Gloria Gaynor and two of them made gold disc status
when they were recorded by Laura Branigan and Helen Reddy. Working in
collaboration with Shel
Silverstein she was the co-author of Thirty and the
author or co-author/lyricist of the stage productions Naked Boys
Singing and Too Old For the Chorus, The Last
Session and The Big Voice: God or Merman?
