Soprano who
graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1976 and furthered her
education at the University of the Arts in The City of Brotherly Love.
In 1983, she
appeared on a recording of Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, in which she played
the part of Un’ancella. A decade later, she embodied the
role of Gianetta in The Savoy Company’s
production of The Gondoliers.
She has also
been very active with the Concert Operetta Theater. Roles include Coralie
in The Count of Luxembourg, Sylva
Varescu in The
Gypsy Princess, and Wilhelmina (Wimple) Kuhbrot
in The Cousin from Batavia.
Other groups
with which she has worked include the Amici Opera
Company, the Harrisburg Opera, The Main Line Opera Guild, and The
Philadelphia Singers.
She and her
husband, James Longacre, started up their own
company, Touch of Classics, and perform throughout Philadelphia and the
surrounding area. During
Christmastime, they comprise one half of a vocal quartet known as The
Victorian Carolers.
Dorothy and
James both serve on the faculty of the Haddonfield School of Performing
Arts.
