He is a violinist born in Treviso, Italy.He studied with his father before
going on to the ConservatorioBenedetto
Marcello in Venice, the
Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena
and the Geneva Conservatory. He
won prizes in the PremioCitta
di VittorioVeneto and the Paganini Comptition in the early 1970s and this led him to
become a soloist for who appear at several European venues including La
Scala, Berlin Philhamonie, the Toral Albert Hall and the Tchaikovsky Hall.From 1978 to 1985 he toured with the
I Virtuosi di Roma as concertmaster and at the same time gave the premiere
of the violin concerto by Dutilleux.He later concentrated on Baroque
music and played on a period violin in his performances at various
international musical festivals.He has worked with composers including Peter Maag,
Giuseppe Sinopoli and Claudio
Scimone of I
Solisti Veneti
fame, and has
performed with orchestras such as the Academy
of Ancient Music, the Mahler
Chamber Orchestra, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and the Venice Baroque
Orchestra.He currently plays
baroque music on a violin from the 17th century that is in its
original condition and for other genres of music he plays a violin made in
1733. He has made many
recordings including the complete Bach sonatas for violin and harpsichord,
two albums of previously unrecorded Vivaldi and Locatelli violin concertos.As a teacher he has been a Professor
of Violin at the Venice Conservatory and the Lucerne Hochschule
and currently holds the position of Professor of Music in the Accademia
Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
