She is a singer-songwriter and author born in
Spartanburg, South Carolina to the owner of a cotton mill. She has
said that her life changed in 1957 at the age of 8, when she went to
see Elvis
Presley
in concert. She studied French at Vanderbilt
University and after leaving became the first woman to front a rock and
roll band. Her career has seen her touring
in concert and also opening for many performers such as Jimmy
Buffett
, The Ramones and Jerry Lee Lewis. She has
since written many hit songs that have been recorded by numerous
artists including Olivia Newton John, Joe Cocker, Jimmy
Buffett, Dion, Conway Twitty, Irma Thomas, Ronnie Milsap, Tanya
Tucker, Crystal Gayle, Emmylou Harris, her "Betty's Bein' Bad" was a
No. 1 hit for Sawyer Brown and her "Railroad Track" recorded by Jimmy
Buffett
was
nominated for a Grammy Award. Fourteen
of her co-written songs have also been heard in the musical Good Ol' Girls
which is stage in the Southern States. She has released ten of her own
albums, some with her band The Love Slaves, that include It's About Time....
Which won "Record of the Year" by the Stereo Review, Take It On Home, Dirty
Linen, Inside Job, Mellowlicious! and Jaded Virgin.
