     Ciulei-Atanasiu, Liliana (25th May 1958-Present)

    She is a violinist born Liliana Ciulei in Bucharest, Romania, who studied at the Bucharest Conservatory and was a 1976 winner of the International Paganini Violin Competition.

     

    She began learning the violin from a young age and gave her public debut performance when she was eleven years old.  When she was 16 she gave a performance of Paganini’s Concerto No. 1 in D major with the World Youth Symphony in Michigan.

     

    After graduating in Bucharest in 1981 she moved to the United States and studied with Ruggiero Ricci.  She began her career in music and became a member of the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. 

     

    During her career she has given over 1,000 performances as a soloist and/or member of chamber ensembles and orchestra such as the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Space Coast Philharmonic and has attended events such as the International George Enescu Music Festival.  She also served as a director at the 2002-3 Orvieto String Festival in Italy.

     

    In the field of musical education she has taught at the Ploiesti Conservatory in Romania and New Jersey’s Rowan University.

     

    Her musical family includes her husband George Atanasiu who is a cellist and their son Alexander who is also a violinist.
