    Clayton, Sam

Longtime background vocalist, conga player, and percussionist for Little Feat and Jimmy Buffett .  He was playing with Delaney & Bonnie when bandmate Kenny Gradney introduced him to Little Feat.  Clayton appeared on their 1973 release Dixie Chicken.  He graduated from background vocals to lead vocals on "Feel the Groove" on the 1979 LP Down on the Farm.  Around the turn of the decade, the band split and eventually got back together in 1988.  In the meantime, Sam had been touring extensively with Jimmy Buffett and appeared on five of his albums:  One Particular Harbour, Riddles in the Sand, Last Mango in Paris, Floridays and Boats, Beaches Bars & Ballads.  He has done session work with Duane Allman, Willie Hutch, New Grass Revival, Robert Palmer, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Seger , and Travis Tritt.  In 2006, he appeared at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.  If you would like to see him in action, he appears on the 2003 concert video Little Feat:  Highwire Act Live in St. Louis.
