    Creider, Barbara

Arranger, teacher and violist who has been a member of the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra.

In 1987, she appeared on The Philadelphia Singers’ Christmas album, Gloria!  Gloria!.  She has also recorded Steven Stucky’s “Double Concerto for Violin, Oboe, and Chamber Orchestra”.

On 16th June 2000, she helped christen the Zuhl Library at New Mexico State University, performing in a string quartet at the reception on Third Floor West after its Naming Celebration.

In the field of music education, she has taught at Settlement Music School and her students have included Olivia Prebus, Floy Wang, and Kerri Laurence Williams.

She has been proactive in the area of arts integration, creating a lesson plan for fifth graders at Sunrise Elementary and contributing to the research team of Ruth Rose for a report titled “Arts Integration, Just Fun or Real Learning?”  Barbara and Ruth presented their findings at the 64th New Mexico Music Educators Association All-State Music Festival and In-Service Conference and at the NEA-New Mexico and Las Cruces Public Schools’ Professional Issues Conference.

As an arranger, she is still very much the educator.  Juego for Student String Orchestra”, her setting of the traditional Mexican song, “Don Martin”, is intended for first and second year pupils with a taste for Mariachi.
