He is a fiddle player, guitarist, banjo and mandolin player and
singer-songwriter, occasionally listed on recordings with his first name spelt as
"Stewart", born in Southern California.He started out by performing with many of his local
bands in Los Angeles and then in 1985 he became a member of the Nashville
Bluegrass Band, who he still performs and internationally tours with
today.He also became a much sought
after sideman and session musician, often in the field of
traditional and bluegrass music, he has appeared with numerous
