He is a
flautist, author and teacher who joined the London Symphony Orchestra
sometime during the 1980s and rose to the position of Principal Flute.
In recent
years he has embarked on many international tours where he has performed as
a recitalist, chamber musician and also given classes.
To date he has
performed with chamber ensembles and orchestras under the leadership of
eminent conductors Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Rafael Fruhbeck du Burgos, Kent
Nagano, Andre Previn and Mstislav
Rostropovich among many others.
In 2005 he
accepted the position of Joint Principal Flute with the Philharmonia
Orchestra and has gone to give countless performances with them.
He is also a
member of The Deutz Trio with the oboist Roy
Carter and the pianist John Alley.
As an editor
he has recorded and edited Partitas
by J.S. and C.P.E. Bach, Canonic Sonatas
and Sonatas for two flutes as well as Fantasias by Telemann, Flute Sonatas of J.S. Bach and G.F.
Handel worked on several issues of The
Flautist’s Collection.
As an author
he has worked with the LSO’s percussionist Neil Percy as a co-writer. This has resulted in them recording
and releasing their Ball and Biscuit
by Caixa in 1999 and Cuvee Acoustique in 2006 with a
play-along being published in 2007.
Also in 2007 he published his own book The 28 Day Warm Up for All Flautists.
Through the
course of his career to date he has appeared on numerous recordings that
include his own Iconic Elements
as well as Bach to Brubeck by Christopher Brubeck,
Unveiled Hope by Michael Card, Charlotte Church by Charlotte
Church, Baroque Banquet and Champagne Classics with The Deutz Trio, Alan Ridout: Cello Concertos by the English Chamber

of musical education he has served as Professor of Flute at London’s Royal College of Music and on
the faculty of the London Flute Academy and has held many masterclasses.
In 2011 he was
involved with editing Giuseppe Rabboni’s
complete flute works as well as starting his new position of Principal
Flute with the English National Opera and carrying on performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Outside of
music he is the director of The Champagne Guild.
