     Elrod, Dr. Pamela

    She is an alto singer, choral conductor and teacher born in Austin, Texas, who took her studies in music and conducting at the Universities of Illinois and Texas, where she also worked on her doctorate.  She joined up with the conductor Robert Shaw in Atlanta in 1988 and was heard in many of his ensembles over the next ten years, which include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus, the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers , Robert Shaw Chorale and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers.  She has been a soloist and ensemble member in A Woodland Tale written by Patricia Hruby Powell with music composed by Eric Lund and appeared on stage and recorded as a soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus in 2005 in their performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Mass in G-Minor.  This was followed in 2006 when they performed it again at the Ojai Music Festival.  Currently she can be heard with the ensemble Conspirare who received a Grammy nomination for the 2004 Through the Green Fuse.  She has appeared on several other recordings during her career, which include Angels on High and Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymns & Carols by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers and Copland; Durufle - Motets; Tavener - Song for Athene by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus.  As a conductor she has led the Madrigal Singers from the Texas Tech School of Music and the Chancel Choir & Orchestra among others.  In the field of musical education she has been a faculty member of schools dotted all over the United States in states such as Texas, New York, Illinois and Georgia and aside from teaching she has been an adjudicator and choral clinician at many venues in the country.  She is currently on the faculty of the Southern Methodist University as Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music.
