He is a multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer born in Maidstone, Kent, to a musical family where his uncle, another Guy Fletcher was a songwriter who had several hits.  Not long into his musical career in 1981 he became a member of Roxy Music and accompanied them on a world tour.  Two years later he was approached by Mark Knopfler to work with him on the soundtrack of the movie Cal and by 1984 he had become a member of Dire Straits.  His work in the movies in collaboration with Mark Knopfler would continue until the present and features on movies and stage productions such as The Princess Bride, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag the Dog, Metroland, Hotel Rwanda and Jersey Boys. This would see him achieving much success when their album Brothers in Arms became a huge hit and catapulted them into the limelight.  Staying with the group until they disbanded he continued to work with Mark Knopfler throughout his solo career and toured the globe with him in 2005 and then with him and Emmylou Harris in their joint tour in 2006.  Other artists he has appeared with are Chet Atkins, Aztec Camera, Willy DeVille , Jimmy Nail, Randy Newman and Tina Turner alongside appearing on a further tour with Bryan Ferry in 1995.  Venturing out on his solo recording career he released his first album as a soloist in 2008.  Over the course of his career he has featured on albums such as his own Inamorata, Missing...Having a Good Time by the Notting Hillbillies, Neck and Neck by Mark Knopfler & Chet Atkins , Golden Heart and Shangri-La by Mark Knopfler , Some People by Belouis Some , On Every Street and On the Night by Dire Straits, Guilty: 30 Years of Randy Newman by Randy Newman, Songbird by Emmylou Harris, Knife by Aztec Camera, Chartbusters Go Pop!
