He is a multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer born
in Maidstone, Kent, to a musical family where his uncle, another Guy Fletcher
was a songwriter who had several hits.Not long into his musical career in 1981 he became a
member of Roxy Music and accompanied them on a world tour. Two
years later he was approached by Mark
Knopfler
to work with him on the soundtrack of the movie Cal
and by 1984 he had become a member of Dire Straits.His work in the movies in
collaboration with Mark
Knopfler
would continue until the present and features on movies and
stage productions such as The Princess Bride, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag
the Dog, Metroland, Hotel Rwanda and Jersey Boys. This
would see him achieving much success when their album Brothers in Arms
became a huge hit and catapulted them into the limelight.Staying with the group until they
disbanded he continued to work with Mark
Knopfler
throughout his solo
career and toured the globe with him in 2005 and then with him and Emmylou
Harris in their joint tour in 2006.Other artists he has appeared with are Chet
Atkins, Aztec Camera, Willy
DeVille
, Jimmy Nail, Randy Newman and Tina Turner alongside appearing
on a further tour with Bryan Ferry in 1995.Venturing out on his solo recording career he released
his first album as a soloist in 2008.Over the course of his career he has featured on albums such as his
own Inamorata, Missing...Having a Good Time by the Notting
