    Frank, Werner (1959 – Present)

    Violist from Vienna, Austria, who attended the Hochschule fur Musik and Konservatorium der Stadt Wien.


    Groups with whom he has worked include the Boheme Ensemble, Ensemble Kaleidoskop, Orchester der Wiener Volksoper, the Vienna Chamber Music Ensemble, the Vienna Concert Society and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.


    On 6th May 2007, he and pianist Roland Batik teamed up at Der Alten Schmiede for a program that comprised Batik’s “3 Bagatellen”, Johannes Brahms’ “Sonata No. 2 in E flat major, Op. 120” and Franz Schubert’s “Sonata in A minor” (“Arpeggione”).


    He was the soloist at Stadttheater Wels on 28th February 2008 when the Vienna Concert Society offered up Josef Friedrich Doppelbauer’s “Concerto for Viola and Small Orchestra”.


    On 7th May 2011, he and percussionist Thomas Siedl shared soloist duties when the Vienna Concert Society presented Christos Hatzis’sPyrrichean Dances” at the Onassis Arts Centre in Athens, Greece.


    Thomas Schindl was the percussionist when they reprised at least the third and fourth movements of the “Pyrrichean Dances” in Vienna on 12th and 13th November 2012.  The concert was rounded out by “Death and the Maiden” by Franz Schubert and the “Simple Symphony” of Benjamin Britten.


    On 31st July 2013, the Vienna Chamber Music Ensemble appeared in Rittersaal des Hohenemser Renaissancepalastes where they performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Septet in E flat major, Op. 20” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581”.


    Recordings on which Werner appears include:  Best of Yodel 99-09 by Christina Zurbrugg; Ignaz Joseph Playel (1757-1831) with members of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra; and, Joseph Haydn:  Notturni with the Vienna Concert Society.
