He is a
bassoonist and teacher born in Graz, Austria, who studied at Graz’s Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory from 1980. He took further studies at the Salzburg
Mozarteum from 1984 to 1988.
In 1987 he became
a member of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra as Principal Bassoon and alongside
that has performed regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. He has been a prizewinner
at several national and international music competitions and appears regularly
at chamber music festivals.
He has given solo
performances in Europe, the UK, Japan and South America under the leadership of many acclaimed conductors
that include Raphael Fruhbeck de Borgas, Gorges Pretre and Wolfgang
In 1994 he moved
into the field of musical education when he became a teacher at the Salzburg
Mozarteum and in 2004 he became a Professor at Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts.
In 2010 he became
a member of the Woodwind Quintet Ensemble Wien-Berlin
and also joined the Wiener Kammerensemble. He is also a member of Trio Classique.
