He was born John W. Geils Jr. and is a guitarist and
singer from Westford, Middlesex
County, Massachusetts.He formed the group The J. Geils
Trio in 1967 who played the folk clubs while he
was attending the Worcester Polytechnic Institute studying mechanical
engineering.By 1970 the band had grown and
became
The J.Geils Band and they
saw their success in 1980/1 with "Freeze Frame" and "Centerfold
". The
band went into semi retirement after their 1984/1985 although do still
occasionally give performances.
