He is a trumpeter who was
born in Alexandria, Virginia
and studied at the Eastman School of Music and the University
of Maryland. He has
appeared frequently with groups including the Orchestra of St.
Luke's, Orpheus
Chamber Orchestra and the American
Brass Quintet
, who he was a member of for 18
years. As a performer he has
made many recordings and his solo trumpet performances of works by Alan
Hovhaness in 1994 won Best Recording on an Independent Label. He has also featured in
performances by Elton
John
and Sting as well as being heard in the movie "The Thin
Red Line". As a teacher
he has been on the faculties of Juilliard School, Columbia University and
the Manhattan School of Music and he is currently an Associate Professor of
Trumpet at the University of Maryland.
