    Georgiadis, John

He is an orchestral conductor and violinist born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England.  His father was an amateur violinist and, under his tuition, he started to play the violin at six years old.  He gained his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London and a year's study in Paris.  He made regular performances as a soloist and as a member of ensembles including leader of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Gabrieli String Quartet.  He is recognised for giving the first London performance of Bartok's Concerto No. 1 and performing the English premiere of the Menotti concerto.   He began conducting with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and studied the subject for eight years with the Romanian conductor/teacher, Sergiu Celibidache.   Since that time he has guest conducted in many countries in the world and has been the Conductor of the several youth orchestras, the Bristol Sinfonia and the Bangkok Symphony.  He has also appeared and had a composition feature in the 1980 movie The Monster Club.   His regular tours and recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra resulted in a top selling CD and a trip to Oman as guests of the Sultan.  In 1972 he founded the London Virtuosi Chamber Ensemble (now Orchestra) and is currently their Conductor and Music Director.  As a teacher he has been the Director of Orchestral Studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
