Gibb, Maurice Ernest (22nd
December 1949-12th January 2003)
He was a musician and singer-songwriter born in Douglas,
Isle of
Man, Great
Britain and was the twin brother of
Robin
Gibb
.His family moved to
Manchester while he was still young
and then in 1958 they emigrated to Australia.He and his brothers, Robin
and Barry,
started singing and songwriting from a young age and became the Bee Gees
in 1958.He was generally known as "the quiet one" and was the
only one of the three brothers who had not been in trouble with the police
before the family emigrated to Australia.He was married to the singer Lulu
from 1969 to 1973.Along with
his brothers, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.Outside of the group he performed a
role in the West End musical Sing a Rude
Song
and had a paintball team he called the Royal Rat Rangers.He died in Miami,
Florida on 12th
January 2003 after complications
following cardiac surgery and subsequent surgery for a twisted intestine.
