Gilmore, Edward

He is a clarinettist and teacher who studied at Queens College and the Juilliard School of Music. He has performed as a soloist, chamber recitalist and group member with a number of ensembles and orchestras on a national and international level including the Contemporary Chamber Players of the University of Chicago, Da Capo Chamber Players, the Little Orchestra Society, the New York Chamber Orchestra, the New York Pops, Quintet of the Americas, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and Speculum Musicae. In 1989 he performed the world premiere of Gazing at Orion for clarinet and piano by Kenneth Fuchs with the pianist Yehudi Wyder and the Queens Symphony Orchestra’s Sounds from the Left Bank. The albums he has appeared on include Sonatas by Allen Brings, Shulamit Ran with the Contemporary Players of the University of Chicago, Deux Preludes by Karl Husa, Symphony in One Movement by Leo Kraft, Dancing in Colombia with the Quintet of the Americas, Jove’s Nectar – Choral Music of Edwin London with Gregg Smith and Ornstein, Lundborg, Ziffrin & Others. Recognised for his work in music he has won several competition prizes and awards and been given several grants including a National Endowment for the Arts grant. In the field of musical education he has been a member of the faculty of the Queens College Aaron Copeland School of Music and in he field of business he runs his company, Gilmore’s Sound Advice Inc.
