He is a drummer, songwriter and producer born in Hong
Kong and brought up on the Isle of Wight, England.His musical education was first
with his experimenting with instruments as a child and when he was 15 he
began to concentrate on the drums.He was a member of several bands during these years, including Joe
Bear, and went on to play in holiday camps during the summer.He followed it up by attending the
Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music where he studied
percussion and it was here that he met Mike Lindup, a co-member of Level
42.He began his professional career as a musician joining
the group M and with them he saw chart success with the single "Pop Muzik"
and appeared on their first two albums.Getting together with his brother, Boon, Mark King and
Mike Lindup he formed the successful pop band Level 42 who would see major
success during the 1980s with hits that include "Running in the Family", "Something
About You", "Lessons in Love", "Love Games" and many more, some of them being
his own compositions.In 1987
he and his brother left the band due to exhaustion and not being completely
happy with the band's sound and the single "It's Over" was released.He took time out to be with his
family and concentrated on the piano and also learning to program.He has since appeared on the Talbot
White album United States of Mind and on the CD-ROM Phil Gould on
Drums and is now programming and recording again.
