Percussionist
from Huntington, West Virginia, who attended the Eastman School of Music
and the Catholic University of America, from whence he obtained his
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music, respectively.
As a member of
the Fredonia Percussion Ensemble, he performed the music of Vivian Fine on
5th November 1968 at the State University of New York at
Fredonia’s Mason Hall Auditorium and on 5th February 1969
at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Cogswell
Auditorium.
He served in
the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974 and played in Pershing’s Own military
band. In 1976, he joined the
National Symphony Orchestra.
Other groups with whom he has performed include the Buffalo
Philharmonic, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Theater Chamber Players, and
the 20th Century Consort.
In the field
of musical education, he has taught at The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music
at the The Catholic University of America, the
George Mason University School of Music, and the Virginia/DC Percussive
Arts Society chapter’s Day of Percussion Timpani Clinic. He also serves as chapter
treasurer.
In 2005, he participated
in the NSO’s North Carolina residency and appeared on
the CD, The American Brass Band
Journal.
He did the
same in April 2010 in their West Virginia
residency that included stops in Glenville, Morgantown,
and Wheeling.
On 20th
December 2010, he accompanied The Washington Chorus in “A Candlelight
Christmas” concert at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
He was back on
the road for the NSO’s Kentucky residency in February
2011. Their program comprised Ludwig
van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 4 in B flat major, Op. 60”,
Michael Daugherty’s “Route 66”, Aaron Copland’s
suite from Appalachian Spring, and
highlights from Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis
et Chloe.
