He was born in Springfield,
Massachusetts.His father was a marine pilot so the family traveled a
lot, but finally settled in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.He played the circuit with various bands before joining the group Alabama as their drummer in 1979.He remained with them until their
Farewell Concerts in 2003/4.He is also a licensed pilot.
