     Hoard, Jeffrey

    He is a tuba player, teacher, dealer in aromatherapy supplies born in Detroit, Michigan, who grew up in Iowa, South Dakota and California and is now resident in Saint Louis, Missouri.

     

    He has appeared as a chamber musician, orchestra member and soloist and spent 11 years in Hong Kong as Principal Tubist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and took part in over 30 recordings with them. 

     

    In his orchestral life outside Hong Kong he has performed with the the San Francisco Ballet, Opera and Symphony Orchestras, Sadlers Wells Orchestra, the Cuban National Ballet, the American National Ballet, the Fresno Philharmonic, the San Jose Symphony, the St. Louis Municipal Opera Orchestra, the California Brass Consort, the New World Brass Quintet, the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, the Fox Theater Orchestra, and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra among many others and still regularly performs with the Gateway Brass Quintet, Holiday Brass and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Brass Quintet, the St. Louis Childrens Choirs and the Compton Heights Concert Band as well as being a previous leader of the R&B group The Great Flood Band. 

     

    His numerous recordings include work with many of the orchestras he has performed with as well as commercials, movies and television scores. 

     

    As a teacher he has held positions on the faculties of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Universities of Wisconsin-Madison, South East Missouri, Saint Louis and Columbia and is currently a private teacher at his Maplewood Studios and the Tuba and Euphonium Instructor at Lindenwood University, Washington University, St. Louis, and Missouri Baptist University. 

     

    Outside of music he is a co-owner of the herbal and aromatherapy supplies company called Cheryl’s Herbs, which he runs with his wife, the French horn player and aromatherapist, Cheryl Hoard.  He is also the Central District Director of the national Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.
