     Houghton, William

    He is an English trumpeter and teacher who has performed as an orchestral member, Principal Trumpet and soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The English National Opera House Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the London Gabrieli Brass Ensemble and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble.  His involvement with the London Gabrieli Consort, who he is still with, has included him being made leader in 1984 when Crispian Steele-Perkins left the position and leading them as the first touring British brass ensemble that visited the People's Republic of China.  His numerous recordings include The London Trumpet Sound, Elgar: Enigma Variations with the LSO, Albinoni/Vivaldi: Trumpet Concertos and Telemann: Wind Concertos with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.  As a teacher he has had many successful pupils in the Royal Academy of Music in London.
