Violist from South Africa who attended the Sweelinck
Conservatory in Amsterdam,
The Netherlands, and studied under Leo Boelens, Cas Burger, Mischa Geller,
Kato Havas, Jo van Helden,
Herman Krebbers, Hans Neuburger,
and Louis Metz.
Groups with
which he has performed include the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic,
the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Radio
Symphony Orchestra.
In 1996, he
appeared on the soundtrack of De Freules.
The
Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra and Groot Omroepkoor rang in the holidays in 2002 with a program
that comprised Roel van Oosten’s
“Quatre Noels Anciens”,
Arvo Part’s “Cantus in memory of
Benjamin Britten”, Alexandre Tansman’s oratorio, Isaie, le Prophete, and Ralph Vaughan
Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols”.
On 23rd
November 2007, the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic presented “Haydn
en Parijs”, featuring the master’s “Celloconcert in D, Hob.I:85”, “Symfonie nr. 82 in C, Hob.I:82” (“L’Ours”), and “Symfonie
nr. 85 in Bes, Hob.I:85” (“La reine
de France”), as well as Jacques Offenbach’s “Ouverture La fille du
tambour-major”.
They
celebrated Christmas in 2007 with Groot Omroepkoor in a concert that included Johann Sebastian
Bach’s “Orkestsuite nr. 3 in D, BWV
1068”, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Mis
in c, KV 427”, and Francis Poulenc’s “Quatre
motets pour le temps de Noel”.
On 13th
December 2008, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, along with Groot Omroepkoor and the Nationaal Kinderkoor, unveiled
Mauricio Kagel’s Sankt-Bach-Passion.
The
Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic performed a Valentine’s Day
concert in 2009 with another Bach leitmotif which consisted of Bach’s
“Klavierconcert in g, BWV 1058”,
Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Tweede symfonie in D, op. 36”, Robert Schumann’s “Fuga uber den Namen Bach, op. 60 nr. 6”,
and Igor Stravinsky’s “Concerto in D”.
On 11th
April 2009, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra put together an
eclectic confection of modern and romantic concertstucke,
including Marc-Andre Dalbavie’s “Pianoconcert”, Franz Liszt’s “Von der Wiege bis
zum Grabe”,
Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et
Chloe (Tweede suite), and Richard Rijnvos’s “Union Square Dance”.
No less variegated
was their amalgamation on 26th September 2009 of Claude Debussy’s
Khamma, legende dansee, Heinz Holliger’s
“Sechs Lieder auf Gedichte
von Christian Morgenstern”, Charles Koechlin’s
“Les Bandar-Log”, and Ravel’s “Pianoconcert
in G”.
On 4th
December 2009, the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic were directed by
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies at Grote Zaal in a
program of the composer’s works:
“Jimmack the Postie”;
“Last Door of Light”, “An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise”, and “Strathclyde Concerto nr. 4 voor
A-klarinet & orkest”.
The
Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra opened up the new year on 15th
January 2010 with Thomas Ades’ “Tevot”, Johannes Brahms’ “Symfonie nr. 1 in c, opus 68”, and Vaughan
Williams’ “Variaties over een thema van Thomas Tallis”.
On 27th
March 2010, they offered up Debussy’s La Mer, Henri Dutilleux’s
“L’arbre des songes”,
Rudolf Escher’s “Musique pour l’esprit en deuil”,
et Bart Visman’s “ces
concerts, riches de cuivre”. Vive la Netherlands!
