born in Hammond, Indiana.
When he was still in
high school he had his own radio showThe
Many Guitars of Del Casher.He went to Hollywood
after college and brought his ideas for the EccoFonic with him, which earned him a place in the RCA
group The Three Suns. He also introduced the Vox wahwah pedal to guitar music
earning him the nickname "Papa of the WahWah".He has performed with Frank Zappa, Julie London, Ray Conniff, Bob
Hope, Peggy Lee, Motown Records and Phil Spector's "Wall of
Sound" along with many others, as well as being a guest soloist on
The Lawrence Welk Show.
He produced the theme music forNBC
News Centre 4 which was heard for 18 years from 1971 to 1988,
and is the longest running theme on American TV. He appeared inRoustabout with
Elvis Presley,The Patsy
with Jerry Lewis and Warren Beatty picked him to play balalaika inLove Affair. He also played on the soundtracks
of movies includingThe Ambushers
andThe Ghost and Mr. Chicken.He has composed the Americana
Suite for orchestra
which premiered in southern California.
