    Kang, Elita

She is a violinist and concertmaster who has performed as an orchestra member and chamber musician and took studies at the Juilliard School of Music’s Pre-College Division.  During her time at Juilliard she was the winner of their Concerto Competition and performed as concertmaster of the school’s orchestra for two years.

In 1992 she performed at the pre-professional division of the America String Teachers Association Competition where she was awarded the Grand Prize.

She went on to take further studies at the Curtis Institute of Music where she also performed with their symphony orchestra as second violinist followed by concertmaster.  Her time there also saw her being employed by the Philadelphia Orchestra as a substitute musician.  She graduated from Curtis with a bachelor’s degree in 1997 and the same year that she became a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Her time with the BSO, which saw her become Assistant Concertmaster in 2001, has also seen her performing as Assistant Concertmaster with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

In 2009 she played on the first American performance of CPE Bach’s Sonatina for Glass Harmonica and Strings with the Boston Artists Ensemble.

Appearing on several recordings during her career to date her work can be heard on albums that include America, Chris Botti: Live in Boston, Holiday Pops, The Latin Album, My Favorite Things: A Richard Rodgers Album and A Splash of Pops by the Boston Pops Orchestra, Vaughan Williams: Fantasia, Symphony No. 5 with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Slumber by Jana McCall.

Very much in demand as a guest artist she has been booked to perform at the Mother’s Night Out concert with the Cape Ann Symphony in May 2012.
