    Stuart Laughton (1951-Present)

He is a trumpet player born in Ontario, Canada, who joined the brass quintet Canadian Brass straight from high school in 1971.  After remaining with them for a year he left to take formal musical studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.  After completion of his education there the music director Claudio Abbado appointed him Principal Trumpet at La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy where he quickly gained acclaim.  He often works as a trumpet soloist and is well known in North America.   He became the concertmaster of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, was a founder of True North Brass, and gave solo performances with the Winnipeg and Toronto Symphonies, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Les Violins du Roy.   He has contributed to Canadian music by founding the "Opening Day Recordings" which is for Canadian classical artists who are given the opportunity to perform on an international stage.  He returned to Canadian Brass in 2003 and played with them from 2003 to 2005 as a member of the Trumpet "Dream Team".
