He is a trumpet player born
in Ontario, Canada,
who joined the brass quintet Canadian Brass straight from high school in
1971. After remaining with them
for a year he left to take formal musical studies at the Curtis Institute
of Music in Philadelphia. After completion of his education
there the music director Claudio Abbado appointed him Principal Trumpet at
La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy
where he quickly gained acclaim.
He often works as a trumpet soloist and is well known in North
America. He
became the concertmaster of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, was a founder
of True North Brass, and gave solo performances with the Winnipeg and
Toronto Symphonies, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Les Violins du
Roy. He has contributed to Canadian music
by founding the "Opening Day Recordings" which is for Canadian
classical artists who are given the opportunity to perform on an
international stage. He
returned to Canadian Brass in 2003 and played with them from 2003 to 2005
as a member of the Trumpet "Dream Team".
