He is a bass player and vocalist active in the music
industry during the 1960s and ‘70s.
He was a member of the band Pyramid in 1967 where one of his
co-members was Iain Matthews and appeared at the 1968 Isle of Wight Pop
Festival playing an acoustic duo with Gary Farr whose Take Something
With You he played on the following year. In 1969 he moved on to work with Iain Matthews once
again, this time as a member of his Matthews’ Southern Comfort, recording
the album Second Spring and Later That Same Year with them. Later That Same Year brought
success when the single release of “Woodstock” reached No.1 in the UK chart and stayed there
for 3 weeks. In 1970 although
still with Matthew’s Southern Comfort, he ventured out on his own solo
pursuit and this resulted in the release of his album The Magician. Later in 1970 he took on the
position of bassist with the popular band Spooky Tooth as a replacement for
Greg Ridley who had gone on to join Humble Pie. With them he recorded the album Ceremony. Also in 1970 he became a member of
the group Southern Comfort, which had evolved from the remaining members of
Matthews’ Southern Comfort after Iain Matthews had left the band. His recordings with them included Frog
City, Southern Comfort and Stir Don’t Shake. In recent years his work has been heard
once again on compilations and CD re-releases of his work with Matthews’
Southern Comfort.
