    Malin, Joseph

    If you are a fan of Spike Lee films, chances are good you have heard session violinist Joseph Malin.  He performed on the soundtracks of Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever.  He has also served as musicians coordinator for a number of Woody Allen films, including Bullets Over Broadway, Mighty Aphrodite, and Radio Days.  Other soundtracks on which he appears are Fame, The Wiz, and the 1990 revival cast recording of Gypsy.  A versatile musician who has worked on such diverse albums as Sesame Street Fever and Wes Montgomery's Roots of Acid Jazz, he has worked with an eclectic array of artists, including Peter Allen, Louis Armstrong, Patti Austin, Shirley Bassey, Tony Bennett, George Benson, Teresa Brewer, Deodato, Jackie DeShannon, Bob Dylan, Maynard Ferguson, Ferrante & Teicher, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Astrud Gilberto, Billie Holliday, Janis Ian, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Carmen McRae, Claus Ogerman, George Shearing, Carly Simon, Frank Sinatra, and Grover Washington, Jr.  Joseph has also donned the producer's cap for Tony Mottola, overseeing 1994's All the Way and 2002's Heart and Soul Guitar.
