    Marsh, Jack

Bassoonist who is credited with performing on both the 1939 and 1982 versions of Fantasia.  He was a member of the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, conducted by Felix Slatkin, that backed Frank Sinatra on his historic 1958 recordings of "Angel Eyes", "Ebb Tide", "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry", "Lush Life", "Monique", "Only the Lonely", "Spring is Here", and "Willow Weep for Me".  Years later, he would appear on Frank's Trilogy.  Jack is also immortalized on Ella Fitzgerald's Get Happy, Hello, Love, Jukebox Ella:  The Complete Verve Singles, Vol. 1, and Something to Live For, and Judy Collins' Hard Times For Lovers.  He also appeared on a number of other soundtracks, including Around the World in Eighty Days, The Color Purple, The Enforcer, Enter the Dragon, The James Dean Story, Lethal Weapon, The Man with the Golden Arm, Night of the Hunter, The Savage Eye, 10, and Toccata for Toy Trains.  In 1970, he helped premiere Victoria Bond's "Quintet for Woodwinds" at Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley State College.  He was also a member of the Westwood Wind Quintet, who were not shy about tackling projects such as Arnold Schoenberg's "Quintet, Op. 26".  It is little wonder that he was a perfect fit for another ambitious project, Lalo Schifrin's Rock Requiem, recorded in 1971.  Jack also appears on the Lalo Schifrin anthology, Most Wanted 1968-1979.  In 1994, he did double duty as bassoonist and bass clarinetist on Jean-Pierre Rampal's Gershwin tribute album, Fascinatin' Rampal.
