    Matthews, Bill (19 September 1923 – 10 February 2003)

First tenor from LaFollette, Tennessee, who was one of the founders, with his brother Monty, of The Jordanaires.  In 1952, during the first performance of an eight-day run at a supper club in Detroit, Michigan, he had some kind of breakdown and couldn’t go on and was subsequently replaced by pianist Gordon Stoker.  Bill had health problems throughout his life and passed away on 10th February 2003.
