Cellist from Spain who attended the conservatory in Madrid and took his
formal studies with Enrique Correa.
In 1984, he joined the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra, and
remained with them for five years.
They performed Jose Luis Turina’s “Ocnos” at Grabado en el
Teatro Real on 4th February 1988. He and Arturo Tamayo co-founded the Spanish Academy for Modern Music. In 1993, he and Margarita Lamberti interpreted Gaspar Cassado
Moreu’s “Sonata nello
stile antico spagnuolo”.
He relocated
to The Netherlands and has since been a member of Camerata
Amsterdam, The Holland Wind Players, the Netherlands Radio Chamber
Philharmonic, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the
Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In 1994, Camerata Amsterdam unveiled European Treasures Vol. 1:
Josef Myslivecek. The Netherlands Radio Symphony and
Orchestra and Groot Omroepkoor
released Olivier Messiaen
4: Transfiguration de Notre
Seigneur Jesus-Christ in 1994.
On 27th October 2002, Krzysztof Penderecki
conducted the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program that
included his own “Concerto for cello and orchestra nr. 2” (with
Arturo as soloist), Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony nr. 7”, and Witold Lutoslawski’s “Trauermusik”. In February 2003, The Holland Wind
Players were invited by the Fond du Lac
Concert Association in Wisconsin, U.S.,
for a couple days of music, food, and drink.
Arturo revisited
his roots in April 2006 when he joined Arturo Tamaya
and Jornadas de Musica Contemporanea de Cordoba
for a concert of music by Luis de Pablo and Igor Stravinsky. In 2007, he was the featured soloist
on the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic and Netherlands Radio
Symphony Orchestra compilation, Julius
Rontgen: Complete Cello
Concertos. The Netherlands
Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, along with Groot Omroepkoor and Vlaams Radio Koor, reprised Olivier Messiaen’s
La Transfiguration de notre Seigneur Jesus-Christ on 27th September
2008. Fittingly, Arturo and the
Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra & Chorus made the cut on the
anthology, Olivier Messiaen, 1908-1992.
On 28th
May 2010, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, in tandem with Groot Omroepkoor and the Nationaal Kinderkoor,
performed Benjamin Britten’s War
