    Muys, Bas (11th October 1948 – Present)

Guitarist, pianist and singer-songwriter who was a member of the Dutch group, Smyle, from 1972 to 1974.  They scored a top-ten hit in 1972 with “It’s Gonna Be Alright”, which was backed with “She Means a Lot to Me”.  Other singles they released include “Crazy Lazy Little Miss Daisy”/”There’s No Reason to Cry”, “Dream of Me”/”Have I Ever Let You Down”, and “The Tandem”/”I’m So Heavy”.

In 1981, he released a solo effort, “Oh Terry”, backed with “You Don’t Know”, and was tapped to sing the John Lennon parts on Stars On/Starsound’s Beatles medley.  Other Beatles tributes would follow:  In the 1980s, he released the self-explanatory album, Lennon & McCartney Songs, and there is another album out there entitled Lennon & McCartney:  Secret Songs.  They’re not really secret, but they are an interesting collection of lesser-known Beatles songs, such as “Bad To Me”, “From a Window”, “Nobody I Know”, and “Tip of My Tongue”.  So inextricably linked to John Lennon and The Beatles are Bas Muys and Smyle that “It’s Gonna Be Alright” actually appears on two obscure Beatles anthologies, Have You Heard the Word? and …One, Two, Three, Four!.  In addition, his version of The Beatles’ “I’ll Keep You Satisfied” made the cut on Rock Hits, on the Road.  Naturally, you can also hear him on the 1983 compilation, The Very Best of Stars on 45.
