He is a trombonist who grew up in Coshocton, Ohio and
studied at the Northwestern University. In 1983 he became a member of the Saint Louis Symphony
Orchestra and he has been with them ever since, holding the William J.
Orthwein Principal Trombone Chair since 1997. Holding other positions within the orchestra he is a
member of the Board of Trustees and of the Orchestra Musician's Council. Other ensembles he has performed
with are the Symphony Brass Quintet, the New Music Circle, the Trombone
Quartet, the Chicago Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Atlanta
Symphony and he has toured with the Summit Brass. His recordings include Holiday Brass with Susan
Slaughter and Bolcom: Symphony No. 4 with the Saint Louis
Symphony Orchestra He is
married to the SLSO violinist Dana Edson and their two teenage sons are
cellists.
