He is an orchestral conductor and musicologist born in
Milan, Italy.
He studied at the Milan Conservatory, at Siena
and Salzburg. He was made Assistant Conductor of
the Mozarteum before returning to Italy
and founding the Sociela Italiana di Musicologia.
Since 1955 he has been the Artistic Director for the Italian
ensemble I Musici and has made recordings with many international
orchestras and choirs including the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Dresden
Staatskapelle, La Fenice and the English Chamber
Orchestra. He has edited many 17th
and 18th Century Italian compositions and is Editor-in-Chief of
the Monumenta Italicae Musicae and a previous Chair of Chamber Music at the Perugia Conservatory.
